The falls are shared by Zimbabwe and Zambia since the river forms their border, and the park is the twin of the Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe.
The term “Mosi-oa-Tunya,” which originated in the Kololo or Lozi language, is currently used throughout Zambia and some areas of Zimbabwe.

Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park extends over 66 km2 (25 sq. mi) in a north-west arc along roughly 20 km (12 mi) of the Zambian river bank, starting at the Songwe Gorge below the falls. It borders Livingstone to the southwest and is divided into two main areas, each with its own entrance: the land next to the Victoria Falls, which create the largest water curtain in the world during the rainy season, and the wildlife park at its northwest end. Aquatic birds such as African finfoot, rock pratincole, and numerous herons and lapwings are drawn to the Zambezi River. Get to know one of Africa’s “Big Five” – the rare rhinoceros, on a wilderness walk through the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park just upstream. On a rhino walk, you get to come close to the outstanding and sadly highly endangered white rhino. The trip starts with a drive into the national park, where you will be transferred into a safari vehicle and meet the guides and trackers, who will have come out earlier to look for the rhinos. The best time to see Victoria Falls is from June to August. Fantastic months are also January and February. At this point, there is a lot of flow but not enough spray to make it difficult to see. You can see a fair amount of wildlife in the game park of Mosi-oa-Tunya at any time of the year. The small game park is well fenced, so sightings are usually quite good. Yet, a large number of elephants cross the river to spend Zimbabwe’s wet season, which runs from November to April.
