History behind Victoria falls.

In the 1860s, British explorer David Livingstone discovered the falls. Strategically, he named them after the reigning monarch of Zambia and Zimbabwe at the time, the inimitable Queen Victoria. Victoria Falls, astoundingly conserved in its natural state, continues to inspire tourists today just as it did for Livingstone so many years ago. The Victoria Falls and their environs have been designated as National Parks and World Heritage Sites, safeguarding them in their pristine original state as Livingstone himself would have discovered them. Efforts are made to keep excessive commercialization away from the face of the Victoria Falls, which is surrounded by a lush rain forest. High on most people’s travel wish lists, the Victoria Falls is hailed as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

Victoria Falls are situated in southern Africa on the Zambezi River at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, the falls may be viewed from both countries. The Victoria Falls can be seen best in the dawn golden light or orange sunset as the drizzle catches the light and creates rainbows of colour. You will always cherish the memory of the deep gorges, some with surprisingly calm pools, the thrust of the spray, and the contrast of towering columns of water.

With a width of 1,708 metres, the Victoria Falls is the world’s largest water curtain. When the river is at its highest flow, an average of 550,000 cubic metres of water fall over the edge every minute. It descends between 90 and 107 metres into the Zambezi Gorge. It is the largest waterfall or single sheet of falling water on Earth when its height and width are added together.
